OUR RECENT NEWS
Dr. Boese and the Iowa Glaucoma team discovered a new GJA3 mutation that causes congenital cataract and secondary glaucoma
In a JAMA Ophthalmology article, Dr. Boese reports a large pedigree with 11 family members that developed congenital cataracts due to an Asp67Tyr mutation in the GJA3 gene. Glaucoma typically follows early cataract removal in less than 50% of congenital cases, However, 100% of this pedigree's members developed glaucoma after cataract surgery. Read more about this discovery here and a commentary by Dr. James Brandt and Dr. Suma Shankar here.
